The OIDP Distinction - Best Practice in Citizen Participation is an OIDP's initiative. The aim of this distinction is to provide incentive for those who wish to initiate innovative experiences at the local level and disseminate those practices that facilitate the participation and the empowerment of citizens in elaborating and implementing public policies.
This award is meant to recognize those innovative experiences and ideas coordinated by local governments in the field of participative democracy that might be replicated elsewhere.
The international jury of I Distinction has been responsible for the definition of the winner experience, based on a set of criteria. The organizations members of the jury had agreed to grant the OIDP I Distinction Best Practices in Citizen Participation to the experience:
Processes and mechanisms for the inclusion of indigenous women in local management. Cotacachi Participatory Budget.
Aiming to incorporate the different suggestions of the jury it has been approved the grant of six special mentions to the following cities:
Tarso Constituent Municipal Assembly, Tarso (Colombia),
Campaign Creator , Bristol (UK),
Collblanc-La Torrasa Integrated Plan, L`Hospitalet de Llobregat (Spain),
Citizen Participation Regulation, La Paz (Bolivia),
Participatory Budget, Fortaleza (Brazil),
Participatory Budget, Seville (Spain).
