4th IOPD Distinction “Best Practice in Citizens’ Participation”

Within the framework of the 9th OIDP International Conference, held in Reggio Emilia on 18th November last, the 4th OIDP “Best Practices in Citizens’ Participation” was awarded.

This year 22 local governments from Argentina, Brazil, France, Madagascar, Mexico and Spain were all candidates for the award. In September the International Jury decided that the 4th Distinction would be awarded to the experience “Community Neighbourhood Improvement Program!” presented by Mexico DF, a decision that they made public at the 9th Conference itself.

The International Jury also decided to award Special mentions to the following experiences:

• Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (Spain): “Participation and Social Development. The Foundations of a Participatory City”.
• Ambalavao (Madagascar): Participatory Budget in the Analamanga Region, the Case of the Rural Municipality of Ambalavao. Antananarivo.
• Alcobendas (Spain): You are the Night of Imagine.

Likewise, within the framework of the International Conference a publication was distributed amongst those attending which includes two CD’s. One of the CD’s contains a brief description of each of the experiences that were presented, while the other contains a more complete account of the award winning experience.
