17, 18 and 19 November 2010

Call for papers

This is a call for the presentation of work or experiences that might serve to enrich the contents of the 10th International OIDP Conference, which is to be held in Mexico DF on 17, 18 and 19 November, with the central theme: “Global Crisis, Participatory Democracy and Local Alternatives”.

Given the importance of the local aspect as a scenario for the development of strategies that could serve to alleviate the impact of the crisis, we would like to request your collaboration in the presentation of such innovative initiatives or theoretical approaches as have come to light as a result of the crisis, in which participatory democracy has played a key role in terms of their design or implementation.

The Conference has been structured on the basis of five thematic axes and will combine central panels and participatory workshops. In the design of the panels and workshops value will be placed on the diversity of concurrent voices as leading actors in participatory democracy: local governments, social movements, territorial organisations, civil society organisations, intellectuals and academics.

Rules for Sending in ABSTRACTS:

1. A four-page summary (approx. 8,500 characters/ font type Arial 11)
2. A brief Curriculum Vitae of the person making the presentation.
3. Contact data for that person (e-mail and telephone).

Closing date for presentations: 3rd May 2010

Selection of Work

The selection of the work will be carried out jointly by the Technical Secretariat and the Presidency, with the assistance of the OIDP Coordinating Committee and the local Mexico City Steering Committee, which has been set up as the specific organisation committee for the 10th Conference.

Notification of acceptance will be by e-mail, before 21st June 2010. Non-reception of an e-mail confirming acceptance will imply that the work/experience has not been selected.

Publication of papers

The works presented will be published on the basis of the original text received on a CD-ROM, by the OIDP Technical Secretariat. The presentation of the text represents implicit authorisation for it to be published.

Relation with the theme: The works presented will have to be closely related to the central theme of the Conference and any works presented that do not deal with the question of participatory democracy as an alternative to the global crisis and are not limited to the 5 axes, will not be taken into account.

With regard to the language: works may be presented in Spanish, English, French or Portuguese.
