The Tenth Edition.
The Tenth Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF 10) will be held from 8-13 February 2020 in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. This will be the first time that an Arab country will host the world's most important conference on cities and human settlements.
WUF10 is convened by UN-Habitat in partnership with the Abu Dhabi Department of Urban Planning and Municipalities, the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, General Secretariat of the Executive Council, and the ultra-modern Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
The theme of the Tenth Session is Cities of Opportunities: Connecting Culture and Innovation.
Cities Of Opportunities:
Six Dialogues Sessions at the WUF10 will take stock of emerging innovative approaches and practices in harnessing culture and innovation as drivers for sustainable urbanization and provide greater insights into the linkages between urbanization, culture and innovation as a basis for achieving inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities and human settlements.
The IOPD will be hosting a networking event on Monday 10:
The International Observatory on Participatory Democracy (IOPD) will host the event "Participatory practices and the right to the city at the core of urban innovation" on Monday 10th February from 4.30 pm to 6.30 pm.
In this session we will share innovative experiences in the field of democracy and human rights. The objectives of this session are to build of new collaborative partnerships with international, national and subnational actors and stakeholders for the improvement of citizen participation mechanisms at the local level, with a special focus on participatory urban planning and city-making. It will be also an opportunity to foster the exchange of information, awareness-raising initiatives, innovation methods, and practices and strategies linked to the 2030 Agenda and the NUA among local governments and partners, as well as across different levels of governance. The IOPD will be also a partner in the session "Integrating climate change adaptation into participatory budgeting practices" that will be held on Wednesday, 12 February 2020 from 2.00 pm to 4.00 pm. Learn more about this session here.
IOPD Africa at the WUF10
IOPD Africa will organize a networking session about "Cities governance, culture and localisation of the SDGs" (in french) on Monday 10th from 10.30 am to 11.30 pm, more information here.
UN-Habitat, University College London, Escobedo City (Mexico), UCLG and ENDA will jointly organized another session about "Achieving SDG 11 and the NUA with Participatory Budgeting PB" on Wednesday 12th February, 2020, 4:30 – 5:30 pm, more information here.
