The Open Government Partnership (OGP) is an organisation of reformers inside and outside of government working to transform how the government serves its citizens. The OGP includes 75 countries and 104 local governments – representing more than two billion people – and thousands of civil society organisations. Their vision is aimed to be implemented through co-creation of reform commitments in national and local action plans.
OGP's Strategy builds on this track record and recognises that significant and enduring changes will need to come from a growing number of reformers—political leaders, civil society, social movements, business leaders, journalists, public servants—who innovate and embed open government in their daily work.
Organised by OGP Co-Chairs and the Government of Estonia, the 8th OGP Global Summit provides an opportunity for representatives of government, civil society, and other relevant stakeholders to exchange experiences, best practices, and progress on open government initiatives and implementation. It will be held in Tallinn, Estonia from 5 to 7 September 2023. Previous Summits have been held in Canada, Georgia, France, Korea, Mexico, United Kingdom, and Brazil.
The IOPD Coordinator, Adrià Duarte, will participate in the session "Building inclusive coalitions," facilitated by International IDEA and the Global Democracy Coalition, on 5 September, where participants will discuss the universal narrative of democracy as a possible outcome of the third S4D (Summit for Democracy).
Our Coordinator will be a speaker for the session of 6 September From One-Off Engagement to System Change: How do we Embed Public Participation in Government?. This session will explore how governments can build the capacity and skills that enable them to engage the public and civil society on a regular and systematic basis. It will discuss examples of where this is happening, hear from the experiences of political leaders and officials, and explore what future reforms should be pursued to ensure people can be involved in the decisions that affect them. The session organisers are Fundación Corona, Government of Spain and People Powered.
